FAQs

Trust and Identity Incubator Mentorship Programme

Can you provide more details on the programme content?

The TIM programme is a seven month paid mentorship funded by the GÉANT GN5-2 project. Students develop their project under the guidance of GÉANT Trust & Identity (T&I) incubator experts and a local mentor during the incubator’s development cycle. The mentorship offers the unique chance for students to get real life experience in an innovative T&I development environment.

The GÉANT Learning and Development team (GLAD) supports the students throughout the programme with a variety of professional development opportunities. Students receive expert presentation training to equip them with the skills to effectively showcase their research.

What topics can I get involved with?

The Trust & Identity Incubator explores new technologies to enhance the GÉANT project’s service ecosystem and evaluates developments for existing GÉANT services. New topics are announced for each cycle.

The Trust & Identity Incubator offers students practical topics in the following areas:

Identity and Access Management

Standards and Protocols

Security and Privacy

TIM participants may select a project of their own choice, or one from a range of concepts, products and services proposed by the incubator team.

How many candidates can NRENs nominate for the programme?

Depending on the number of candidates in the programme, there is a maximum of two candidates per NREN. Priority may be given to applications from NRENs that haven’t taken part in previous TIM cycles, to encourage geographical diversity.

The programme has capacity for up to three students per cycle.

How do NRENs nominate an applicant?

Applications need to be submitted via the online form. The application should include the student’s CV and motivation letter (outlining why they want to take part in the initiative), along with the sponsoring NREN’s motivation letter (detailing why the TIM work is important, and how the internship arrangement will work).

What is the selection process?

The TIM organisers will review applications to select the successful candidates. Students may be invited to interview.

The selection process reviews the student’s academic background and motivation for joining the TIM programme. It also ensures that sponsor NRENs are able to support the applicants alongside the local mentor.

Once the successful applicants are announced, the sponsoring NREN will arrange the details of the mentorship with the student. The student will then join the world of the T&I Incubator!

What happens when I join the programme?

Successful applicants will be notified and then contracts and logistics will be finalised with their hosting NREN.

TIM students will attend the incubator cycle kick-off meeting to meet the incubator team (at a Central European location).

The programme duration is seven months from the kick off meeting.
